Another batch of stranded Nigerians is expected to return home on Thursday as the Federal Government continues its evacuation exercise following recent xenophobic attacks and security concerns in South Africa.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the fourth evacuation flight, operated by Air Peace, is scheduled to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, at 7:30 p.m.
The ministry disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
284 Passengers Onboard The Flight
The ministry revealed that the flight is carrying 284 passengers, made up of 272 adults and 12 infants.
It added that two government officials are also onboard to coordinate the evacuation process and support the returnees upon arrival.
According to the statement:
“The expected time of arrival of the 4th evacuation flight from South Africa today, operated by Air Peace at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, is 7.30pm.”
FG Continues Evacuation Exercise
The latest flight marks the fourth evacuation mission organised by the Federal Government for Nigerians who voluntarily opted to return home following the recent wave of xenophobic attacks and rising security concerns in South Africa.
The evacuation programme is aimed at ensuring the safe return of affected Nigerians while providing necessary support for their reintegration.
Authorities have assured that the government remains committed to protecting the welfare of Nigerian citizens abroad and will continue to monitor developments affecting Nigerians living in foreign countries.
