Gunmen have abducted three students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) after attacking their off-campus hostel in Nasarawa State.
The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying the students were kidnapped from their residence along Awe Road, near the university’s temporary campus in Akunza, Lafia.
According to the police, the attackers forcefully broke into the students’ apartment before whisking them away.
Police spokesperson Ramhan Nansel said the command received a distress call from the university’s Chief Security Officer, prompting the immediate deployment of tactical and patrol teams to the area.
Following a coordinated search-and-rescue operation in the surrounding forest, security operatives successfully rescued one of the abducted students, while efforts continue to secure the release of the remaining two victims.
“Efforts have since been intensified to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining two victims still in captivity and the arrest of the perpetrators,” the police said.
The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, directed all operational and intelligence units to sustain the rescue mission until the remaining students are freed unharmed.
He also assured residents that the perpetrators would be tracked down and brought to justice, urging the public to remain calm and continue providing useful information to security agencies.
