Senate President Godswill Akpabio has predicted that opposition parties will accuse the ruling party of rigging if President Bola Tinubu wins a second term in the 2027 general election.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the City Boy Movement, a pro-Tinubu support group, at the National Assembly in Abuja, Akpabio expressed confidence that the President would secure re-election despite expected criticism from political opponents.
The Senate President, who serves as the group’s Grand Patron, urged members to strengthen grassroots mobilisation across the country and ensure the President has representatives at every polling unit during the election.
According to Akpabio, the movement can help prevent a repeat of what he described as votes that were not counted during the 2023 elections.
“But when the victory of President Bola Tinubu will be announced, you will hear people saying it is rigged… Ignore all those things and remain focused,” he said.
He also described the City Boy Movement as a growing political force, saying its influence was already being felt by political parties nationwide.
“The City Boy Movement is like a wind blowing across the nation. You may not see it but you can feel it. Every political party in Nigeria is already feeling the impact of the City Boy Movement,” Akpabio stated.
Beyond politics, the Senate President encouraged Nigerian youths to stay away from cultism, drug abuse, terrorism and other social vices, urging them to contribute positively to nation-building through active political participation.
“You are privileged to work for the future of your country… You are also privileged to belong to the incoming government of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in 2027,” he added.
Earlier, the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Francis Shoga, said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with the National Assembly ahead of the group’s nationwide mobilisation activities.
Shoga noted that the organisation intends to expand its programmes across the country, promote civic engagement among young Nigerians and contribute to national development.
