The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has praised EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, saying the anti-graft agency has reached its highest standard since he assumed office.
Alausa made the remarks on Tuesday at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja while receiving 1,452 hostel items recovered from a major cybercrime operation and forfeited to the Federal Government for distribution to schools.
According to the minister, Olukoyede has transformed the commission by strengthening professionalism and ensuring it operates within the rule of law.
“Chairman, I commend you for bringing the highest level of standards to the EFCC,” Alausa said.
The recovered items include 501 double-step bunk beds, 939 mattresses and 12 wooden beds with mattresses, all seized during Operation Eagle Flush, one of the EFCC’s largest cybercrime operations.
Olukoyede disclosed that the operation led to the arrest of 792 suspects, including 193 foreign nationals, who were investigated, convicted and, where applicable, deported to their home countries.
The education minister also praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing Olukoyede, describing the President as someone who identifies capable leaders for key positions.
“Today, three years later, we have the cleanest EFCC in the history of this country,” Alausa stated.
He added that the commission has not been used to victimise innocent Nigerians but has remained committed to fighting corruption through lawful means.
Alausa also commended the EFCC for shifting from reacting to corruption cases to proactively identifying and tackling major corruption risks, especially in public procurement.
The minister revealed that the recovered beds and mattresses would be deployed to Unity Colleges across the country to improve students’ welfare.
Speaking at the event, Olukoyede said the decision to transfer the items to the Ministry of Education reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the quality of education in Nigeria.
“The decision to hand over these facilities to the Federal Ministry of Education is in line with the Federal Government’s determination to improve the quality of education in Nigeria,” he said.
He added that President Tinubu approved the transfer because children and young people are among those most affected by corruption and should directly benefit from recovered assets.
