Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has met with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie ahead of her headline performance at the country’s 50th Independence Day celebrations.
The award-winning singer, whose real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, arrived in the island nation as part of the Golden Jubilee festivities and is set to perform on Monday at Stad Popiler.
During the courtesy visit, President Herminie welcomed the Mavin Records artiste and thanked her for joining Seychelles in celebrating the historic milestone, describing the anniversary as a reflection of the country’s unity, culture and progress.
A video shared from the meeting captured Ayra Starr expressing appreciation for the warm reception she received upon arriving in Seychelles.
“My name is Ayra Starr, from Lagos, Nigeria. I am so happy to be in the Seychelles… Expect star girl energy, expect to have fun, expect to dance, to lose your voice by singing loudly, and just expect to have a good time,” she said.
The singer also praised the hospitality of the Seychellois people and said she was looking forward to entertaining fans at the celebration.
“Shout out to the Seychelles people, you guys are amazing. I just got in today, and I feel all the love, and I can’t wait to see you on Monday,” she added.
Ayra Starr rose to prominence with her 2021 hit “Bloody Samaritan” and has since become one of Afrobeats’ biggest global stars, earning several international awards and nominations under Mavin Records.
