The Imo State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim during a coordinated intelligence-led operation targeting criminal hideouts in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, led by the Commissioner of Police, Audu Bosso, in collaboration with local vigilantes, covered the Nekede, Ihiagwa and Agbala forest axis, areas believed to have been used as safe havens by criminal gangs.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal camps and strengthen security across Imo State.
The exercise followed directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, through the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-East, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, aimed at intensifying the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes in the region.
During the operation, police operatives rescued an injured kidnap victim identified as Chinonaobi Uchegbulam from Ubaha Orodo, who was found inside a forest hideout.
The victim was immediately evacuated to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment and is said to be responding positively.
Commending the officers involved, Commissioner of Police Audu Bosso praised their professionalism and bravery, reaffirming the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations against criminal elements across the state.
He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in tackling kidnapping and other security threats.
The police assured residents that efforts to identify, dismantle and eliminate criminal hideouts across Imo State would continue.
