The Oyo State Government has lifted the curfew previously imposed on 10 local government areas following the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, who said the decision was taken after the government reviewed the security situation in the affected communities.
According to him, residents of the affected local government areas can now resume their normal daily activities.
“The Oyo State Government has lifted the curfew imposed on 10 local government areas following the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire. Residents can now resume their normal activities,” Oyelade said.
He, however, assured residents that the state government would continue working closely with security agencies to monitor the situation and maintain peace across the affected areas.
The commissioner added that efforts to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers are still ongoing, while measures are being put in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The curfew was initially imposed on June 24 as part of security measures to support rescue operations before it was later extended for an additional day.
The government also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to security agencies to strengthen public safety.
