The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has fined Saudi Airlines ₦6 million for violating consumer protection regulations, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the rights of air passengers in Nigeria.
The sanction was disclosed by the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Chris Achimugu, in a statement shared on his official X account.
According to Achimugu, the penalty followed several consumer protection-related infractions by the airline,
He recalled that the NCAA had earlier intervened to prevent a crisis involving the airline at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and also granted it additional time to address pending issues and comply with the Civil Aviation Authority’s directives.
“This sanction is necessary to ensure compliance with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023. Paying passengers travelling to and from Nigeria deserve to feel protected and respected by the airline,” Achimugu said.
He added that while the authority will continue to support Saudi Airlines and other international carriers operating in Nigeria, airlines must comply with consumer protection regulations and provide better services to passengers.
The NCAA maintained that the sanction is aimed at improving airline accountability and ensuring Nigerian travellers receive the standard of service they deserve.
