Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope despite the country’s economic challenges, saying small businesses can provide opportunities for self-reliance and financial stability.
Speaking about her office’s empowerment programmes, the First Lady said many businesses require only modest capital to get started, citing ventures such as akara frying, corn roasting and kulikuli production as examples.
“We’re trying to give hope,” she said, explaining that beneficiaries of her empowerment programmes receive grants, not loans, to help them build sustainable livelihoods.
According to her, the initiative is designed to encourage entrepreneurship and reduce financial burdens on beneficiaries.
Beyond economic empowerment, Tinubu said her office has continued to invest in healthcare, education, agriculture, ICT training, scholarships and other social intervention programmes aimed at supporting vulnerable Nigerians.
She disclosed that significant funding has been committed to healthcare interventions, including support for tuberculosis, breast cancer treatment and efforts to combat food malnutrition.
Acknowledging the hardship many Nigerians are currently facing, the First Lady admitted that economic realities have become increasingly difficult but urged citizens not to give up hope.
Aligning her message with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, she called on Nigerians to remain optimistic and continue believing in a better future.
“We have to renew our hope… We are a very proud nation,” she said.
The First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to expanding empowerment initiatives and providing more support to Nigerians through her office’s intervention programmes.
