Popular Nigerian TikTok star Peller has responded to rapper Ycee after the musician mentioned him while criticising what he described as Nigeria’s growing culture of celebrating ignorance over education.
Ycee made the comments during an interview on the Afropolitan Podcast, where he lamented what he called an “olodo uprising”, claiming that society now rewards sensational online content more than academic excellence.
The rapper also referenced “Peller culture,” arguing that many young people are chasing internet fame instead of focusing on education.
“We now have an olodo uprising… Society is no longer celebrating academic excellence. Now, it isn’t just the Yahoo culture; we also have the Peller culture,” Ycee said.
Although Ycee insisted he had nothing personal against Peller, the social media personality rejected the remarks and accused the rapper of unfairly dragging his name into the conversation.
Reacting in an Instagram post, Peller argued that the same people Ycee criticised are also supporting and promoting his music career.
“The same olodo uprising wey una dey use promote una noise… You yourself are an illiterate because, as an elderly man with sense, you should be able to make your point without mentioning anyone’s name,” Peller wrote.
The exchange has since sparked widespread reactions online, with social media users divided over Ycee’s comments on education and internet culture, while others defended Peller for speaking out.
The debate adds to the growing conversation about the influence of digital content creation, youth culture, and the value placed on education in Nigeria.
