Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has approved the establishment of a Special Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as part of efforts to curb rising cases of substance abuse and drug-related crimes across the state.
The development was announced in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, who said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the fight against illegal drug activities through a coordinated multi-agency approach.
The task force will be chaired by Barrister Muhuyi Magaji, the immediate past Executive Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
Its membership includes representatives from the NDLEA, Police, DSS, NSCDC, Customs, Immigration Service, Kano State Hisbah Board, health institutions, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders.
The committee will coordinate intelligence sharing, identify major drug hotspots, support the prosecution of offenders, and lead public awareness campaigns across the state.
According to the government, the task force will also recommend measures to seize assets linked to drug trafficking, strengthen forensic investigations, and improve collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the judiciary.
Governor Yusuf described drug abuse as a serious threat to the future of young people and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling the problem through enforcement, prevention, rehabilitation, and community engagement.
He urged members of the committee to discharge their responsibilities with dedication and professionalism in the interest of the people of Kano State.
