Governor Biodun Oyebanji has been re-elected as the Governor of Ekiti State after emerging victorious in the 2026 governorship election, securing a commanding lead across the state’s 16 local government areas.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially announced the result in the early hours of Sunday, confirming another term for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.
According to the Returning Officer, Professor Adenike Oladiji, Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challengers in the race.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Oluwole Oluyede, garnered 40,543 votes, while Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Party (ADP) secured 12,872 votes.
The election witnessed a significant turnout across Ekiti State, with 384,940 accredited voters participating in the process. INEC also recorded 375,777 valid votes and 6,332 rejected ballots.
Results released from all 16 local government areas showed Oyebanji maintaining a strong lead in key voting centres, including Ado, Ekiti West, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ikole, and several others.
The outcome further strengthens the APC’s grip on Ekiti State, with supporters celebrating what many described as a resounding endorsement of Oyebanji’s administration.
Although the election was largely peaceful, there were reports of minor technical challenges during the voting and collation process. However, the issues did not significantly affect the final outcome.
With the declaration, attention is expected to shift to the governor’s next agenda as he prepares for another term in office.
