US President Donald Trump has suggested changing the name of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to “NICE,” arguing that the rebrand would make it harder for critics and media outlets to portray the agency negatively.
The proposal was shared on Trump’s official X account, where he praised ICE officers for their work and accused the media of unfairly targeting the agency.
According to Trump, adding an “N” for “National” would create a more prestigious identity while also putting critics in an awkward position when discussing immigration enforcement activities.
“The name of these Patriots, ‘ICE,’ should be changed to ‘NICE,’” Trump wrote.
The president joked that journalists would struggle to report stories involving the agency if they were forced to repeatedly use the word “NICE” in headlines and news reports.
Trump also revealed that while many supporters like the idea, some within the agency are reportedly less enthusiastic about the proposed name change.
He ended his post by launching a poll and inviting Americans to share their views on whether ICE should officially become “NICE.”
The suggestion comes as immigration remains one of the most debated political issues in the United States, with ICE continuing to attract both praise and criticism over its enforcement activities.
The proposal quickly generated reactions online, with supporters applauding the idea and opponents dismissing it as a political distraction.|
