The Oyo State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its fight against cultism and violent crime following the arrest of two suspected cult members in Oyo Town.
The suspects were reportedly apprehended during an intelligence-led operation carried out by officers attached to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
According to police authorities, the operation was launched after credible information linked the suspects to activities threatening public safety within Oyo Town and surrounding communities.
During the raid, security operatives arrested the two suspects at their hideout in the Oke-Apo area of the town.
A search conducted after the arrest reportedly led to the recovery of a locally made pistol and live ammunition.
Investigators said the suspects allegedly admitted to belonging to a cult group and are currently assisting the police with ongoing investigations into criminal activities within the area.
The development has been described as another major step in the command’s efforts to tackle cult-related violence and improve security across Oyo State.
The police noted that the successful operation was made possible through actionable intelligence provided by members of the public, stressing the importance of community support in combating crime.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State reassured residents that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property while ensuring that criminal elements have no safe haven within the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue sharing useful information with security agencies to help prevent crime before it occurs.
