The leadership battle within the Sokoto State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a fresh twist after a Federal High Court fixed July 13, 2026, for substantive hearing in the case.
The dispute, which has continued to generate attention within the opposition party, returned to court on Friday before Justice Ahmad Mahmud Gama.
During the proceedings, lawyers representing the parties presented lengthy arguments on several applications filed ahead of the main case.
After considering submissions from both sides, the court ruled on the applications and directed the plaintiff to provide additional details regarding some of the allegations contained in the suit.
The court also granted timelines for the parties to file the necessary documents before the next hearing date.
Speaking after the session, counsel to the first defendant, Barrister Sulaiman Usman (SAN), said the court granted an application for extension of time and ordered the plaintiff to supply further particulars to enable the defendants properly respond to the claims.
“The application was granted substantially as prayed, and the matter has now been adjourned to July 13 for hearing,” he said.
Counsel to the plaintiff, Barrister Mathew Burkaa (SAN), welcomed the ruling and assured the court that the directive would be complied with.
The case is expected to resume on July 13, when substantive proceedings are scheduled to begin in what observers believe could have significant implications for the future leadership of the ADC in Sokoto State.
