The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old man, Ifechukwu Okechukwu, over the alleged murder of his 23-year-old girlfriend and the secret burial of her body in Nkpor, Anambra State.
The suspect was among several individuals taken into custody in connection with separate cases involving murder and child abuse across the state.
According to the police, the arrest followed intelligence provided by concerned residents and investigations linked to a viral video showing the exhumation of a corpse in Nkpor.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said officers acted on credible information received from members of the public, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
“The first suspect in custody, Ifechukwu Okechukwu, aged 33 years, is being investigated for the alleged murder and secret burial of his 23-year-old girlfriend,” Ikenga stated.
He explained that detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) have taken over the case and commenced a detailed investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death.
The police spokesperson assured that all necessary steps are being taken to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served.
In a separate incident, the command also confirmed the arrest of three suspects over the alleged abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Odume Layout, Isiowulu.
The suspects were identified as Chukwudi Chukwuyere (40), Chisom Chukwuyere (30), and Arum Goodluck (16).
According to police investigations, the child suffered severe injuries, with one of the suspects allegedly admitting to using burning plastic to inflict burns on the victim.
“During interrogation, Mrs. Chisom confessed to having used burning plastic to inflict burns on the victim,” Ikenga revealed.
Authorities said the child has since received medical attention and necessary support while investigators continue gathering evidence for possible prosecution.
Reacting to the incidents, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring offenders are held accountable.
He also urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and criminal conduct within their communities.
The shocking cases have sparked outrage among residents, with many calling for justice for the deceased woman and the abused child.
