United States President Donald Trump abruptly cut short a televised interview with NBC’s Meet the Press moderator Kristin Welker after a tense exchange over his election fraud claims, January 6 defendants, and a proposed compensation fund for alleged victims of government “weaponisation.”
The interview grew increasingly confrontational as Trump defended plans to compensate individuals he believes were unfairly targeted under former President Joe Biden’s administration, arguing that many had lost jobs, families, and livelihoods.
The discussion became more heated when Welker challenged Trump’s claims about the January 6 Capitol riot and his continued assertion that the 2020 presidential election was rigged.
When asked to provide evidence for his allegations, Trump insisted there were irregularities in the electoral process, particularly in California, while Welker maintained that no evidence had been presented to support those claims.
The exchange soon turned personal, with Trump accusing major media organisations and the interviewer of bias and dishonesty.
Your are crooked , your elections are crooked , your press is crooked Trump told Welker during the interview, while also criticising several major U.S. news outlets.
Moments later, the president ended the conversation, saying, “Let’s call it quits because I’ve had enough.”
Despite Welker’s appeal to continue the interview, Trump stood by his decision, arguing that he had already given enough time and blaming what he described as a dishonest media culture.
The interview ended on a dramatic note, but Welker later revealed that she subsequently spoke with Trump and that he agreed to sit down for another Meet the Press interview in the future.
The clash has since generated widespread reactions online, highlighting Trump’s ongoing battles with major media organisations and his continued stance on the 2020 election and January 6 investigations.
