In a major development from Borno State, 416 women and children abducted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area, have reportedly regained their freedom.
The release was confirmed by the President of the Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA), Samaila Kaigama, who disclosed that the captives were freed on June 6 following prolonged engagements and advocacy efforts.
Kaigama expressed relief over the development, saying persistent discussions and efforts by stakeholders helped secure the freedom of the victims.
He also urged the Federal Government, Borno State Government, and relevant authorities to carry out proper screening and rehabilitation of the released captives before reintegrating them into society.
The freed victims were among those abducted after a deadly Boko Haram attack on Ngoshe earlier this year. During the assault, terrorists reportedly overran a military base, destroyed operational vehicles, killed several people, and kidnapped hundreds of residents.
While residents and families have welcomed the release with excitement, authorities are yet to officially provide details on the circumstances surrounding the captives’ freedom.
