A shocking security breach has rocked Ogbomoso, Oyo State, after armed hoodlums reportedly stormed a Nigeria Immigration Service office, assaulted officers on duty and escaped with a service rifle and other valuables.
The daring attack occurred on the night of June 2, 2026, when a group of about five suspects allegedly gained access to the Immigration Passport Office by scaling the facility’s rear fence, which borders a large bushy area.
According to reports, the attackers confronted two Immigration officers who were on duty, assaulting them with sticks and other dangerous objects before overpowering them.
After subduing the officers, the hoodlums reportedly carted away a G3 rifle and its ammunition, raising fresh concerns about security around government facilities.
The suspects were also said to have stolen a mobile phone belonging to one of the officers, a power generating set and a motorcycle battery before fleeing through the same route they used to enter the premises.
Despite the violent nature of the attack, both officers survived and have reportedly received medical treatment. Authorities say they are currently in stable condition.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Command disclosed that preliminary findings showed the attackers entered through the rear section of the facility connected to a vast expanse of bushland.
Following the incident, security agencies launched an intensive manhunt for the suspects.
The police revealed that tactical teams, surveillance operatives and intelligence units have been deployed to comb nearby bushes and possible escape routes in a bid to recover the stolen firearm and apprehend those responsible.
The Command also disclosed that intelligence assets and informants have been activated as investigations continue.
To strengthen security efforts, the police said a joint task team involving the Oyo State Police Command and the Nigeria Immigration Service has been established to coordinate operations and prevent similar attacks.
Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, assured residents that all available resources were being deployed to track down the perpetrators and maintain security across the state.
The incident has sparked concern among residents, especially coming at a time when insecurity and attacks on public facilities continue to generate nationwide attention.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and report any useful information that could assist ongoing investigations.
