The pain and uncertainty surrounding the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State continue to deepen, as families anxiously wait for the safe return of their loved ones.
One of the most emotional moments emerged when Mrs. Funmilayo Ojo, an elderly resident of Ahoro-Esiele community, tearfully revealed that four of her grandchildren and her daughter-in-law are among those still being held by their abductors.
Speaking during Governor Seyi Makinde’s visit to the affected community, the distraught grandmother struggled to hold back tears as she appealed for urgent intervention.
“My four grandchildren and my son’s wife are among those abducted,” she cried, capturing the heartbreak currently being experienced by many families.
Families Trapped Between Hope And Fear
Since the shocking abduction, relatives of the victims have been living in fear and uncertainty, desperately hoping for positive news.
Residents say every phone call, knock on the door, or rumor circulating within the community raises fresh hopes that the captives may finally return home.
Many described the attack as unprecedented, noting that such a tragedy had never occurred in their peaceful communities before.
The incident has not only affected the families of the victims but has also left entire communities shaken, with growing concerns over safety and the future of their children.
Prominent Families Also Affected
Among those affected is Professor Wole Alamu of LAUTECH, whose wife, a school principal, is also among the abducted victims.
While appreciating government efforts so far, he appealed for sustained action to ensure the safe release of everyone still in captivity.
The emotional impact of the tragedy was equally evident during a visit by the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, who joined residents in expressing solidarity with the affected families.
Tinubu Orders Recruitment Of 1,000 Forest Guards
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has announced new measures aimed at improving security in the area.
A high-powered delegation sent by President Bola Tinubu visited the affected communities and assured residents that every effort was being made to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers.
As part of immediate security measures, the President approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State in collaboration with the state government.
The delegation also disclosed that a request for a military base in the area would be forwarded to the President for consideration.
In addition, a specialised security team with advanced rescue capabilities has been directed to intensify operations aimed at bringing the victims home safely.
FG Assures Families Of Safe Return
The presidential delegation, led by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, conveyed President Tinubu’s concern over the incident and reassured residents that security agencies were fully committed to securing the release of the victims.
According to the delegation, the President has directed all relevant security agencies to deploy every available resource to ensure the abducted children and teachers are rescued.
For families still waiting, however, each passing day remains a painful reminder of the uncertainty they continue to endure.
