The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has cautioned Nigerians against believing results currently circulating on social media, insisting that no official outcome of its nationwide primary elections has been released.
The party said only its National Executive Council (NEC) has the authority to announce the final results of the primaries conducted across the country.
The clarification comes after several unverified results began trending online, with some posts claiming that prominent aspirants, including former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, lost their contests.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, dismissed the reports and urged party members, supporters, and the public to ignore any unofficial announcements.
“The public should disregard all results currently circulating on social media. The official results remain with the National Executive Council, which is solely responsible for announcing the outcome of the primaries,” the statement said.
According to the party, the NEC will review the results before any formal declaration is made.
The NDC also disclosed that its National Leader, Seriake Dickson, has summoned a crucial NEC meeting in Abuja to deliberate on the outcome of the primary elections.
Party officials are expected to arrive in the capital for a pre-NEC session before the main meeting where decisions on the primaries will be finalised.
The party explained that the names of successful candidates would be officially made public after they have been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with electoral requirements.
The development has generated intense interest among party supporters, especially following the emergence of Peter Obi as the NDC’s presidential candidate after running unopposed for the party’s ticket.
With political activities gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, the NDC says it remains committed to a transparent process and urged members to rely only on information released through its official channels.
