The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Zamfara State, Comrade Sani Halliru Magaji, has delivered a scathing assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing the government of worsening the economic hardship faced by millions of Nigerians.
Speaking while reviewing the administration’s performance after three years in office, the labour leader claimed that rising inflation, soaring fuel prices, and the increasing cost of living have left many citizens struggling to survive.
According to Magaji, workers, pensioners, artisans, and unemployed Nigerians have been hit hardest by the current economic situation, with many unable to meet their basic needs despite working tirelessly.
He argued that the removal of fuel subsidy has placed enormous pressure on households, making transportation, food, and other essentials far more expensive than they were a few years ago.
The NLC chairman lamented that the purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians has continued to decline, leaving many families battling daily to put food on the table.
Magaji also criticised political leaders for what he described as a disconnect from the realities faced by average citizens, alleging that public officials continue to enjoy privileges while ordinary Nigerians bear the burden of economic reforms.
According to him, workers’ salary increases often receive public attention, while benefits and allowances approved for politicians are rarely subjected to the same level of scrutiny.
The labour leader maintained that many of the government’s policies have failed to improve the welfare of citizens, insisting that Nigerians deserve better economic conditions and stronger social support.
His comments add to the growing debate over the impact of the administration’s economic reforms as Nigerians continue to grapple with rising costs and difficult living conditions.
