Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal says he has no sleepless nights over the running of the state, expressing confidence in his administration’s performance while promising to deliver maximum votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Lawal made the remarks during a media chat on Monday when he was asked whether unfinished responsibilities in his administration kept him awake as governor.
The governor said he was not a desperate politician and remained confident about his political future based on what he said his administration had achieved.
“I’ve never had sleepless nights. First of all, I am not a desperate politician, and based on what we have done, I am 100% convinced that 2027, by the grace of Almighty Allah, nothing will change. So there’s nothing to fear,” Lawal said.
He said he was satisfied with the direction of his administration and the response of residents to its programmes.
“I sleep very well. I’m happy. I’m healthy. You know, at my age and everything, no ailment whatsoever. That’s to tell you that, under any circumstances, I sleep. I never, never had sleepless nights over governance because we’re doing the right thing,” he said.
Lawal also said his administration had received the support of residents, whom he said had embraced its transformation agenda.
Speaking about the 2027 presidential election, the governor expressed confidence that Zamfara would deliver substantial support for Tinubu but declined to give a specific number of votes.
He compared predicting the exact number of votes to determining the outcome of a pregnancy before delivery.
“Politics is like a pregnant woman, especially in those pre-days when you can even assess what you have. It’s only when you deliver that you will know the sex of the baby,” Lawal said.
The governor stressed that his comments were limited to Zamfara State and that he could not speak on behalf of other states.
“I am for Zamfara State. All I’m saying is, by the grace of Almighty Allah, I will deliver maximum votes to Mr President. I can’t speak for any other state,” he said.
Lawal further promised that Tinubu would receive more votes from Zamfara in 2027 than the president secured in the state during the 2023 presidential election.
“I mean, we’ll give him the highest, more than what we did in 2023. By God’s grace, it will happen,” the governor said.
His comments come as political parties and politicians intensify preparations and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
