The Bauchi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially adopted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its preferred presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during a gathering of party leaders and stakeholders in the state, where ADC officials described Atiku as the most experienced and capable leader to rescue Nigeria from its current economic and security challenges.
Speaking during the event, the state chairman of the party, Alhaji Shu’aibu Abdullahi Dankama, said the decision followed wide consultations with party members, youth groups, women associations, professionals and political stakeholders across Bauchi State.
According to him, Nigeria is presently battling serious economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, inflation and rising frustration among citizens, making it necessary for the country to choose a leader with experience and national acceptance.
“We carefully examined the state of the country and concluded that Nigeria needs an experienced, courageous and competent leader who can restore hope and stability,” Dankama said.
The ADC chairman praised Atiku’s political experience, describing him as a leader with deep understanding of governance, economic reforms and national unity.
He noted that during Atiku’s time as Vice President, Nigeria witnessed reforms that strengthened the private sector, attracted investments and expanded economic opportunities for many Nigerians.
Dankama also said the former presidential candidate has remained consistent in advocating restructuring, inclusive governance and democratic values over the years.
According to him, Bauchi people have a long political relationship with Atiku, popularly known as the Wazirin Adamawa, and appreciate his contributions to national development.
The party assured Atiku of its total support and commitment towards delivering victory for the ADC in the 2027 elections.
The Bauchi ADC chairman further urged party members to remain united, disciplined and focused ahead of the elections, stressing that success would require sacrifice, grassroots mobilisation and teamwork.
He also encouraged youths and women to actively participate in the political process, saying their involvement would play a major role in shaping Nigeria’s future.
Dankama commended the national leadership of the ADC under former Senate President David Mark for repositioning the party as a growing opposition force ahead of 2027.
The endorsement is expected to further strengthen political conversations around Atiku’s possible return to the presidential race as opposition parties continue strategising ahead of the next general election.
