Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has called on filmmakers to focus more on stories that truly reflect the realities of life in Nigeria instead of relying only on romantic storylines.
Speaking during a recent interview, the actress said movies should not just entertain people but also mirror society and the everyday experiences Nigerians face.
According to Rosman, while love stories remain important, filmmakers should pay more attention to socially relevant storytelling that connects deeply with audiences.
“It’s important for art to reflect the times,” she said, stressing that Nigerian films should capture the country’s struggles, culture, emotions and realities.
The actress, who played Amanda Sparkles in the hit movie series To Kill A Monkey (TKAM), admitted she was overwhelmed by the massive reaction her role received from fans.
However, she revealed she was never surprised by the success of the series because everyone involved already sensed the project was special while filming.
Rosman described the production process as intense and emotional, adding that the cast and crew poured serious effort into bringing the story to life.
She also revealed that playing Amanda Sparkles pushed her out of her comfort zone because some parts of the character initially felt difficult to understand.
But after studying the role deeply, she said she developed more compassion and learned to judge people less harshly.
Speaking about Nollywood’s future, Rosman praised the industry’s growth and evolution, saying Nigerian storytelling still has huge untapped potential.
According to her, Nollywood may still have a long journey ahead, but progress is already happening gradually every year.
