Senator Ned Nwoko has openly rejected the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary in Delta North, insisting that he was the rightful winner of the contest.
The lawmaker, who currently represents Delta North in the Senate, accused some party stakeholders of manipulating the process to favour former Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.
Speaking in a statement released on Thursday in Asaba, Nwoko claimed the primary election was unfair from the beginning and lacked transparency.
According to him, his team gathered strong evidence showing he won the exercise across several wards in the district.
Nwoko alleged that midway into the primary election, instructions were suddenly given that results should no longer be announced at the ward level, raising suspicion among his supporters.
He said the results were instead taken away for final announcement elsewhere, a move he believes paved the way for manipulation.
The senator also questioned videos circulating online showing support for Okowa, arguing that they represented only one ward out of the 98 wards involved in the primary election.
According to him, the APC leadership should release complete ward-by-ward results to prove the credibility of the exercise.
Nwoko maintained that the support he received from party members across the district was overwhelming and reflected in videos and reports gathered by his team.
He further declared that he would not accept any final outcome that goes against what he described as the genuine will of APC members in Delta North.
Despite the controversy, the senator said he remains loyal to the ruling party and would continue supporting the APC and President Bola Tinubu.
He also expressed confidence that President Tinubu would look into the matter and ensure fairness is done.
Nwoko used the opportunity to explain why he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming he faced political restrictions while serving under the previous leadership in Delta State.
According to him, those challenges prevented him from fully carrying out his duties as senator.
The APC primary controversy has already sparked conversations among political supporters in Delta State, with many waiting to see whether the party’s national leadership will respond to Nwoko’s allegations.
With tensions rising over the Delta North APC primary, attention is now focused on the party leadership and whether fresh action will be taken over the disputed results. The political battle between Ned Nwoko and Ifeanyi Okowa could shape the future of APC politics in Delta State ahead of the next elections.
