A tragic incident has rocked the Guzape area of Abuja after a National Youth Service Corps member allegedly stabbed his father, businessman Adimike Godwin, to death following a heated argument at home.
The 53-year-old businessman was reportedly attacked on Friday night after an altercation with his son, who is currently serving in Abuja under the NYSC scheme.
Sources within the Electrical Dealers Association of Nigeria described the deceased as a prominent importer, real estate investor, and respected member of the association.
According to reports, Godwin frequently travelled between Lagos and Abuja due to his business operations and properties located in Lekki, Guzape, and Maitama.
A source told Vanguard that the incident happened after the suspect allegedly returned home from a club before confronting his father over financial issues and claims of unfair treatment.
“We were told that his son, who is also reportedly into drugs, went to a club and later returned to his Guzape home,” the source said.
“Apparently, a heated argument ensued after the son confronted his father about being unfair with money, citing how some of his friends’ fathers buy cars for their children.”
The source added that the disagreement later escalated into violence, with the NYSC member allegedly stabbing his father three times in different parts of the body.
“Following the confrontation and an argument over mismanagement of business funds, the son allegedly stabbed his father three times,” the source added.
The suspect has since been taken into police custody, while the deceased’s wife was also reportedly invited for questioning as investigations continue.
Members of the Electrical Dealers Association of Nigeria were said to have immediately secured the deceased’s shops and warehouses to prevent looting or unauthorised removal of goods.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said officers responded after concerned individuals reported being unable to reach the businessman.
“The FCT Police Command is investigating the death of Mr. Adimike Godwin of Guzape, which was discovered following a distress call,” she said.
“On arrival, the police found the injured victim in a pool of his own blood. He was confirmed dead by doctors on duty at Karu General Hospital.”
Adeh disclosed that five suspects, including a relative of the deceased, are currently in custody as part of an ongoing investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi.
The police spokesperson urged members of the public to remain calm and assist investigators with any useful information related to the case.
