Former Chief of Air Staff and 2023 APC governorship candidate in Bauchi State, Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar (retd.), has announced his withdrawal from active politics.
The retired military officer made the announcement on Sunday through a post on his X page, where he revealed that he would no longer contest for political office or remain affiliated with any political party.
Abubakar said he has decided to step away from what he described as the “murky waters” of Nigerian politics, stressing that his focus would now shift to supporting ordinary Nigerians outside the political space.
According to him, although he is quitting partisan politics completely, he remains committed to contributing positively to society and helping citizens in any way he can.
The former Air Chief entered politics shortly after retiring from military service in 2021 and later emerged as the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Bauchi State during the 2023 elections.
He, however, lost the election to incumbent governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party.
His latest announcement comes amid growing speculation about a possible political comeback ahead of the 2027 elections.
In recent weeks, campaign posters linking him to a potential governorship bid under the Action Democratic Party had reportedly appeared in several parts of Bauchi metropolis.
Despite the rumours, Abubakar’s statement appears to put an end to talks about his return to the political arena.
