Lagos Assembly Speaker Emerges Consensus Candidate For Agege Federal Constituency
Supporters and members of the All Progressives Congress turned out in large numbers on Saturday in Agege, Lagos State, as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, emerged as the party’s consensus candidate for the House of Representatives seat representing Agege Federal Constituency.
The APC primary exercise, which was conducted peacefully, attracted a huge crowd of party faithful and stakeholders who gathered to endorse and validate Obasa’s candidacy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party members described the large turnout as a reflection of Obasa’s strong political structure and grassroots influence within Agege and surrounding communities.
Obasa’s emergence followed his official declaration of interest in the House of Representatives seat during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Agege on May 13.
Speaking after the validation process, the Lagos Assembly Speaker expressed gratitude to party leaders, stakeholders and APC members for the trust and confidence placed in him.
According to him, the endorsement represented more than personal political success, stressing that it reflected the collective determination of party members to continue promoting development and progress within Agege and Lagos State.
Obasa assured supporters that he remains committed to quality representation and promised to continue prioritising the welfare and interests of residents if elected into the National Assembly.
He stated that his focus would remain on serving with integrity, speaking for the people and ensuring that Agege continues to maintain a strong political and developmental presence among constituencies in the country.
The Speaker added that the overwhelming support received during the primary had further strengthened his determination to deliver more democratic dividends to the constituency.
With the conclusion of the APC primary exercise, Obasa is now expected to represent the ruling party in the forthcoming general election, a development party loyalists believe could further strengthen the APC’s political dominance in Agege and Lagos State generally.
