At least four people have lost their lives in separate violent incidents in Plateau State following a fresh attack in Riyom Local Government Area and a clash involving security operatives and residents in Pankshin LGA.
According to reports, suspected gunmen attacked Gwa-Rim community in Rim District of Riyom on Friday night, killing three residents after opening fire on villagers.
The victims were identified as Matthew Solomon, Timothy Toma, and Alpha David. Matthew Solomon was reportedly a student of Plateau State Polytechnic.
The attack, which occurred around 9 p.m., caused panic in the community as residents fled for safety during the shooting.
The incident was confirmed by the Public Secretary of Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, amid growing concerns over recurring attacks and insecurity in several communities across Plateau State.
In a separate incident, one person was reportedly killed while four others sustained injuries during a confrontation involving security operatives and residents of Myer community in Pankshin LGA.
Sources said the clash was linked to a dispute between farmers and herders over grazing activities on farmlands ahead of the planting season.
The situation reportedly escalated during security intervention, with residents alleging that gunshots were fired during the confrontation.
Following the incident, the Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Council, Felix Amos Gonung, visited the injured victims receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Pankshin and promised to cover their medical expenses.
He also met with community leaders and stakeholders in Myer community in a bid to restore peace and prevent further violence in the area.
