The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has confirmed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially paid for his presidential nomination form ahead of the 2027 general election, signaling a major step in his bid to contest under the party’s platform.
The confirmation was made public in an official statement shared on the party’s X account on Saturday, accompanied by a payment receipt showing that Atiku paid ₦90 million via bank draft for the party’s presidential nomination form.
According to the receipt, identified as Official Receipt No. 2881, the payment was made on Friday, May 8, 2026, marking one of the earliest major developments in the build-up to the 2027 presidential race.
Announcing the development, the ADC described it as a significant moment in what it called a new chapter in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
The party said Atiku’s move represents part of a growing political momentum within the ADC as it positions itself as a credible alternative ahead of the next general election.
“This development marks another significant moment in the growing movement for national renewal, democratic inclusion, and people-driven leadership within the ADC,” the party stated.
The ADC also used the announcement to reinforce its political message, saying it remains committed to offering Nigerians a strong platform built on unity, competence, economic recovery, security, and national progress.
According to the party, the next stage of the process will be the formal presentation of nomination forms, which is scheduled to take place on Monday at the ADC National Secretariat in Abuja.
Political observers say the confirmation of Atiku’s payment could signal broader political realignments and coalition-building efforts as opposition parties begin to prepare for the 2027 elections.
More developments are expected in the coming days as the party continues to unveil its plans and political direction ahead of the polls.
