Two farmers have been abducted by suspected gunmen in Ifira Community, Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State, with the kidnappers reportedly demanding ₦10 million for their release.
According to sources, the victims were ambushed while on their way to the farm and taken into a nearby forest.
A family member said the incident had been reported to the Nigeria Police and the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun), adding that the abductors later contacted the families to demand ransom.
“We’ve reported the incident to the police and the Amotekun Corps. We’re begging the security agencies and the government to help us rescue our brothers unharmed,” the relative said.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said the police received a report of missing persons and had launched a joint search operation involving the Police, Army, Amotekun Corps, local hunters, Agbekoya operatives and community volunteers.
“Search and rescue operations are currently ongoing, with all available operational and intelligence resources being deployed to locate the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Abayomi said.
The police, however, stated that the command is not aware of any ransom demand linked to the incident.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist security agencies in rescuing the victims.
