Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved ₦25 billion for the construction of new residential quarters for judges as part of efforts to improve the welfare and working conditions of the state’s judiciary.
The project will consist of 40 standard duplexes equipped with recreational facilities to provide a conducive living environment for judges.
The approval was announced after Monday’s State Executive Council meeting by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba.
The council also approved ₦1.9 billion for the establishment of four Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in the Orlu zone to improve access for candidates sitting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to Emelumba, ₦900 million will be released immediately to begin work at the pilot centres located at Bishop Shanahan Secondary School and Community Secondary School, Omuma.
In addition, the council approved the establishment of Imo Signage Asset Management Limited, a public-private partnership initiative aimed at regulating and deploying smart digital billboards across the state.
Governor Uzodimma also swore in Longers Anyanwu as the new Commissioner for Agriculture and directed relevant authorities to take immediate action to address the erosion challenges affecting parts of the state.
The government said the new signage project would be funded by private investors at no cost to the state and would use Internet of Things (IoT) technology to create a modern digital signage system.
