The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports claiming that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is under investigation over an alleged visa racketeering scheme.
In a statement issued on Monday by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the anti-graft agency described the reports as false, stressing that the Immigration boss has no connection to the ongoing investigations.
According to the EFCC, while it is investigating allegations of visa fraud involving some immigration officers, Kemi Nandap is not under investigation.
“The commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Immigration CG,” the statement said.
The agency confirmed that criminal cases involving some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service are already before the Federal High Court, with investigations still ongoing.
The EFCC added that more immigration officers could face prosecution if further investigations uncover additional evidence of fraudulent practices.
The clarification comes after reports and online claims suggested that the Immigration Comptroller-General was being investigated over an alleged visa overstay racketeering scheme.
According to the allegations, some immigration officers were accused of collecting money from foreign nationals who overstayed their visas instead of enforcing the penalties outlined in the Nigeria Visa Policy 2025, which prescribes a $15 daily fine for each day a visitor remains in the country after their visa expires.
Investigators are also reportedly examining about ₦700 million allegedly traced to the account of one officer under investigation, while another suspect is being probed over properties allegedly acquired through third parties.
The EFCC urged journalists and media organisations to verify information with the Commission before publication to avoid spreading false or misleading reports about its investigations.
