The Patron of the City Boy Movement, Seyi Tinubu, has said the organisation has grown beyond being a campaign platform and is now focused on promoting national development, youth engagement and active citizenship across Nigeria.
Speaking at the opening dinner of the City Boy Movement National Retreat in Abuja, Seyi Tinubu described the gathering as the beginning of a stronger movement dedicated to supporting national progress and advancing the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He commended members who travelled from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, saying their commitment reflected selfless leadership and a shared desire to contribute to Nigeria’s development.
According to him, the City Boy Movement has evolved into a nationwide network committed to mobilising volunteers, encouraging youth participation in governance and promoting democratic values.
Seyi Tinubu, however, urged members not to become complacent, stressing that the organisation still has much more to achieve.
While acknowledging that many Nigerians continue to feel the effects of ongoing economic reforms, he said the administration of President Bola Tinubu inherited significant economic and security challenges but had introduced bold policies aimed at stabilising the economy, improving infrastructure, attracting investment and strengthening key sectors.
He encouraged members to engage Nigerians with facts, empathy and responsible communication while explaining government policies at the grassroots.
“This movement must become not simply about defending government, but about reconnecting Nigerians with government,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Francis Shoga, disclosed that the organisation aims to mobilise 10 million youth votes for President Tinubu in the next general election through sustained grassroots engagement.
He said achieving the target would require hard work, community mobilisation and continuous public enlightenment rather than relying on social media campaigns alone.
The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Mariya Mahmoud, praised the movement for promoting patriotism and responsible citizenship, while the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, urged young Nigerians to become active participants in governance and nation-building.
The retreat brought together leaders, coordinators and members of the City Boy Movement from across the country to review the organisation’s activities and strengthen strategies for grassroots mobilisation.
