US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, saying the United States would respond with overwhelming military force if Tehran attempted or succeeded in assassinating him.
In a post shared on his Truth Social platform on Friday, Trump claimed the US military was fully prepared to launch a devastating response if any such threat was carried out.
“1,000 missiles are locked and loaded… Orders have already been given, and the U.S. military is ready, willing, and able… to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran,” Trump wrote.
The warning comes amid renewed tensions between Washington and Tehran despite recent diplomatic efforts aimed at easing hostilities.
Meanwhile, Iran has rejected Trump’s claims that the ceasefire between both countries had ended, insisting it has honoured its commitments under the recently signed memorandum of understanding.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the United States of violating parts of the agreement by imposing fresh sanctions and taking actions inconsistent with the peace deal.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has so far kept its word… There can only be mutual compliance,” Araghchi said.
Although both countries have held direct and indirect talks through mediators in recent weeks, there has been little progress toward a lasting agreement.
The latest exchange also comes as reports indicate the US has given Iran a deadline to stop actions affecting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil route that has remained at the centre of rising regional tensions.
Iran has maintained that it will not surrender under pressure, with senior officials insisting the country remains prepared to defend itself if necessary.
Despite the sharp exchange of threats, diplomatic efforts continue through regional mediators, including Qatar, Oman and Pakistan, as both sides seek to prevent a return to full-scale conflict.
