Borno South Senator Ali Ndume has called on the military and other security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue dozens of people still being held captive in his constituency following the successful rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Ndume congratulated security agencies on the Oyo rescue operation but appealed for similar efforts to be directed towards communities in Borno South, where many residents remain in the hands of kidnappers and insurgents.
“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the military to shift their attention now to my senatorial district and help us get these people back,” Ndume said.
The senator disclosed that at least 42 people, including children, are still in captivity in his senatorial district.
He added that more than 30 residents of Lassa were recently abducted, while over 50 others remain in captivity in another location despite the release of some victims from previous attacks.
“Our people, our children in my senatorial district are under captivity… Some of the over 400 abducted persons were released, but many others are still being held by their kidnappers,” he said.
Ndume’s appeal comes shortly after pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State regained their freedom after spending more than 50 days in captivity.
The victims were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, during an attack on schools in the area. One of the teachers was later killed while in captivity before the remaining hostages were eventually rescued by security agencies.
