President Bola Tinubu has directed emergency response agencies to provide immediate medical care and relief support for the pupils and teachers rescued from captivity in Oriire, Oyo State, following their release after nearly two months.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force for the successful rescue operation.
“I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers after a military, police and intelligence-driven operation,” Tinubu said.
The President described the operation as a major relief for the victims, their families and the nation, noting that eight suspected kidnappers were arrested while several others were neutralised during the mission.
He also commended the Oyo State Government for its cooperation throughout the rescue effort and urged the state to strengthen security around schools to prevent similar attacks.
“My government will get justice for these children, their teachers, and the family of Mr. Oyedokun, who was gruesomely murdered by the terrorists,” the President added.
Earlier, the Presidency confirmed that the rescue operation was carried out without any ransom payment or prisoner exchange, adding that the gang leader whose release was demanded by the kidnappers remains in custody and is facing prosecution.
A video released after the rescue also showed one of the freed teachers expressing gratitude to President Tinubu and the security agencies for securing their freedom.
