Former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, has urged President Bola Tinubu to speak directly to Nigerians on key national issues instead of relying on aides and presidential spokespersons.
Speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting with the President, the Borno South senator said Nigerians deserve to hear firsthand from their leader, especially on the country’s economic challenges and growing security concerns.
“I advised him, and he promised to look into it, to speak directly to Nigerians. Nigerians would expect that their leader will tell them what is going on, instead of other people talking on behalf of Mr President,” Ndume said.
The senator also commended the government’s renewed efforts against insecurity, noting that recent military operations have increased pressure on bandits across the North-East, North-West and other affected regions.
“If this tempo is kept, we are sure that this thing will come to an end,” he added.
Ndume revealed that his meeting with President Tinubu was delayed because the President was in a security meeting with the nation’s service chiefs, describing it as a sign that the administration is taking the security situation seriously.
He expressed optimism that sustained military operations and better coordination among security agencies would help restore peace to affected communities.
