The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has agreed with the recent comments made by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, that President Bola Tinubu has tried his best to tackle insecurity.
However, Obi argued that while the President may have made efforts, Nigeria now needs a leader with the capacity to solve its growing security and economic challenges.
Speaking during an interview with media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo, Obi said Adeboye’s assessment was fair but insisted that the real question Nigerians should ask is whether Tinubu’s best is good enough.
“Pastor Adeboye remains a very revered, respected religious father, whom I believe in his genuineness and goodness. What he said was correct. He said he has tried his best. The question to ask is: Is his best good enough? Where we find ourselves today, that leads to the issue of capacity,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor maintained that leadership requires more than effort, stressing that competence and compassion are essential qualities for anyone seeking to lead Nigeria.
“When I talk about leadership, I say competence, capacity, compassion, commitment and character. These are the issues. President Tinubu is tired. He needs to go home and rest,” he added.
Obi also urged Nigerians to evaluate his leadership record and the ideas he has presented before making their decision ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“It’s for you to look at my past and look at what I’m saying now,” he said.
Pastor Adeboye had recently defended President Tinubu against criticisms over worsening insecurity, saying the President had done his part by directing the military and security agencies to confront the challenge.
The respected cleric, however, also called on the government to intensify efforts to combat terrorism, kidnapping and those sponsoring criminal activities across the country.
