President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially begun his re-election bid after submitting his All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination forms and retaining Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The nomination forms were submitted on the President’s behalf by his Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari, during a ceremony attended by top APC leaders at the Continental Hotel in Abuja.
The submission formally confirms that Shettima will once again complete the APC presidential ticket, ending speculations over the Vice President’s place ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking at the event, Masari represented President Tinubu as party leaders gathered to witness the official submission of the nomination forms.
The occasion was attended by Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, alongside APC governors, members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), the APC caucus in the National Assembly, members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and other key stakeholders.
Tinubu had initially picked Ibrahim Masari as a placeholder running mate in 2022 before later naming Kashim Shettima as his substantive vice-presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 election.
With the submission of the nomination forms, the APC has officially kicked off President Tinubu’s campaign for a second term, with Shettima remaining his running mate.
