A former National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Eniola, has made a heartbreaking appeal for financial support after a road accident while returning from orientation camp left her paralysed nearly five years ago.
Her emotional story, shared in a viral TikTok video posted by a close friend, has touched many Nigerians as she recounted how a journey home from the NYSC camp changed her life forever.
According to Eniola, she was deployed to Akwa Ibom State for the mandatory one-year service but fell ill barely two weeks into the orientation camp and was advised to return home. Sadly, she was involved in a fatal road accident on her way back.
“I had an accident when I was coming back from NYSC camp… I was the only survivor. The accident affected my spinal cord and since then, I’ve been like this,” she said.
The accident left her with a severe spinal cord injury, making it impossible for her to move or feel any part of her body below the chest. She also revealed that she has battled painful bedsores and other complications since the incident.
“I can’t move my legs. I can’t walk… I lost sensation from below my breast downward,” she said.
Eniola disclosed that her search for treatment has been frustrating, claiming she has spent years consulting different doctors and individuals who promised solutions but allegedly took advantage of her condition. She added that one of her toes was eventually amputated after complications.
Despite everything she has endured, Eniola said she remains hopeful and believes she will walk again. She appealed to Nigerians to support her treatment and rehabilitation.
“I really want to get better. I believe I’m going to walk again… I don’t even mind walking slowly. I just want to walk,” she pleaded.
Her emotional appeal has continued to attract sympathy online, with many Nigerians calling for support to help her access proper medical care.
