Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says the FCT Administration has increased its monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from about ₦9 billion to more than ₦40 billion since he assumed office, attributing the growth to sweeping reforms in revenue collection and financial management.
Speaking during a media chat with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Wike said the significant increase was driven by deliberate efforts to block revenue leakages, improve tax collection and strengthen the administration’s financial systems.
According to the minister, the improved revenue has given the FCT Administration the financial strength to execute major infrastructure projects and enhance public services across the nation’s capital.
“When we came on board, our IGR was a mere ₦9 billion a month, but as I speak to you today, we’ve been able to improve it to forty-something billion. So when people now say, ‘Oh, FCT is working, FCT is working,’ it’s working because somebody has made it to work,” Wike said.
‘Reforms Responsible For Revenue Growth’
Wike explained that the increase in internally generated revenue did not happen by chance but was the result of carefully implemented reforms aimed at improving accountability and efficiency in revenue generation.
He noted that the additional funds have enabled the administration to finance critical development projects without relying excessively on allocations from the Federal Government.
According to him, residents are already benefiting from the improved revenue through better roads, public infrastructure and enhanced service delivery across the Federal Capital Territory.
Wike Promises More Development
The FCT minister also credited the progress to prudent management of public funds, stronger institutional processes and improved transparency in governance.
He stressed that effective leadership remains key to sustainable development, adding that the FCT’s revenue growth demonstrates what is possible when government institutions are properly managed.
Wike assured residents that his administration would continue building on the gains already recorded by investing in infrastructure, improving public services and promoting long-term development across Abuja.
