Veteran journalist and Ovation Magazine publisher, Dele Momodu, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying Nigerians are facing unprecedented hardship while the government has failed to show genuine concern.
Momodu made the remarks during an interview with journalist Rufai Oseni on Nevon Media, where he expressed frustration over the country’s worsening economic and security situation.
According to him, the level of hardship has become so severe that he now feels uneasy checking messages on his phone because many Nigerians are constantly asking for financial help.
“These days, even for me to open some messages on my phone, I’m scared because everyone is begging. The suffering of the people,” he said.
The media entrepreneur, who said he is 66 years old, noted that despite witnessing several difficult periods in Nigeria’s history, the current challenges are unlike anything he has experienced before.
“I’m old enough to know and understand the challenges we’ve encountered in Nigeria before now. Nothing can equal this,” Momodu stated.
He also criticised the government’s handling of insecurity, saying the situation has deteriorated while the administration continues to reassure Nigerians without showing enough empathy.
“Insecurity has never been this bad. And I’m not seeing any sense of remorse or atonement. Everything is, ‘we are doing something about it,’” he said.
Momodu further urged the President to communicate more frequently with Nigerians, arguing that regular public engagement is essential for effective leadership.
Drawing a comparison with former U.S. President Donald Trump, he said leaders should consistently keep citizens informed.
“If I was the president of Nigeria, information is power. You must inform the citizenry every day,” he added.
