Five dismissed police officers, including Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Usman Nuhu, have pleaded not guilty to charges arising from the alleged extra-judicial killing of 28-year-old Warri musician, Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as “OG Million.”
The former officers were arraigned on Tuesday before Justice M. Nduka of the Delta State High Court 4 in Asaba over the April 26 incident that occurred in Effurun, Delta State.
Standing trial alongside Nuhu are former ASPs Owoloko Daurou Pamo and Okoh Kelechi, as well as Inspectors Goodluck Kingsley and Omonigho Ahweyevu.
While Nuhu is facing a murder charge under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law of Delta State, the other four defendants were charged with negligent acts causing harm under Section 344 of the same law.
After the charges were read, all five defendants pleaded not guilty.
Justice Nduka subsequently adjourned the matter until July 14, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
Speaking after the proceedings, Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole (SAN), said the prosecution was fully prepared to pursue the case.
“The defendants have been arraigned and have taken their pleas, as they are entitled to do. They pleaded not guilty, but our case is very straightforward. Nobody has the right to make himself the accuser, the judge and the executioner,” he said.
Describing the incident as disturbing, the Attorney-General assured the public that justice would be served.
“We are fully prepared for the trial. I assure the public that justice will be served,” Ohwovoriole added.
Counsel to two of the defendants, C. Promise, also confirmed his clients’ readiness for trial.
“They have taken their pleas and the matter has been adjourned to July 14. We will return to court on that date for the trial,” he said.
Ogidi was allegedly shot dead at the Effurun Main Motor Park after he was reportedly caught attempting to send a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition to a recipient in Sapele.
The incident, in which the victim was allegedly shot while his hands were tied behind his back, was captured in a viral video that sparked widespread public outrage.
