The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has described United States President Donald Trump as one of the few politicians who follows through on his promises, saying that is the quality he admires most about the American leader.
Adeboye made the remarks while speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala, organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., where he also shared his previous concerns over reported threats of possible military action against Nigeria.
According to the cleric, he publicly appealed to the Nigerian government late last year to act swiftly after hearing reports that the US president was considering military action against terrorists operating in Nigeria.
Adeboye said he believed such an action, although aimed at criminals, could also put innocent civilians at risk because of the devastating consequences of bombings.
Reflecting on the situation, the RCCG leader said his admiration for Trump is not because he agrees with all of his policies but because he believes the US president is known for carrying out the promises he makes.
“I have never met Trump, but I have followed him, and I like him. That does not mean I agree with all his ways. What I like about him is that he tells the truth. He is the best politician I have ever met,” Adeboye said.
The respected cleric also recalled a conversation with the United States Ambassador, who asked for his opinion about Trump during a visit.
According to Adeboye, he replied that he liked the US president because he keeps his word and usually delivers on the promises he makes to the public.
He further noted that politicians often make promises without fulfilling them, but said Trump has built a reputation for acting on his commitments.
Adeboye also disclosed that he shared similar views during discussions with President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, encouraging the Nigerian government to engage the United States and reassure its leadership of Nigeria’s commitment to tackling terrorism.
His remarks have since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians weighing in on his comments about the American president.
