Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has pledged that the state government will take full responsibility for the welfare of the family of Ummulkhairi Aliyu, the woman who was lynched by a mob in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area.
During a condolence visit to the family on Saturday, the governor promised to support the deceased’s husband and sponsor the education of her four children.
Ummulkhairi, an Islamic teacher, was brutally attacked on June 14 after being falsely accused of attempting to kidnap children. She was beaten to death by an angry mob before her body was set on fire.
Condemning the incident, Governor Sani described the killing as barbaric and assured the family that justice would be served.
“The Kaduna State Government will take responsibility for the welfare of the family. We will support the husband and ensure that the four children receive quality education,” he said.
The governor disclosed that security agencies had made significant progress in the investigation, revealing that 41 suspects have been charged with culpable homicide, while 30 others have been charged with unlawful assembly. In total, 82 people have been investigated in connection with the incident.
Governor Sani also directed that the role played by security personnel, particularly the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Maraban Jos, be thoroughly investigated. He warned that any officer found to have acted negligently or compromised the investigation would also face the law.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that everyone found responsible for the killing is prosecuted.
The tragic incident sparked nationwide outrage, with religious leaders, civil society groups and human rights organisations calling for justice and stronger action against mob violence.
