The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said Nigeria can only achieve lasting progress by raising a new generation of responsible and visionary leaders committed to selfless service and good governance.
Obi made the remarks in a post on his Facebook page after engaging with students of Madonna University, Okija Campus, during the NextGen Mentorship and Leadership Initiative themed, “Beyond Now: Raising the Next Generation of Leaders.”
According to him, the interactive session highlighted the frustrations many young Nigerians have over poor governance and corruption, but also revealed their determination to contribute positively to the country’s future.
Obi stressed that leadership remains the most important factor in national development, adding that effective leaders must possess character, competence, capacity and compassion, alongside a willingness to make sacrifices for the people.
“Nigeria’s future depends on leaders who are committed to protecting lives, investing in education, creating opportunities and building strong institutions,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor urged students to take their education seriously and prepare for leadership roles, encouraging them to become active participants in the democratic process.
As part of his commitment to education, Obi presented a ₦15 million cheque to Madonna University to support its educational programmes.
“Together, by raising a new generation of responsible and visionary leaders, we can build the Nigeria of our dreams,” Obi added.
