The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a 40-foot container loaded with 4,959 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis valued at ₦12.397 billion, at Apapa Port, Lagos.
The seizure followed over four weeks of intelligence-led surveillance and was carried out during a joint inspection involving the Nigeria Customs Service, other security agencies and port stakeholders.
According to the agency, the container originated from Toronto, Canada, before passing through Montreal and Morocco en route to Nigeria.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives arrested Iwebema Ogechi Peace, a 38-year-old businesswoman, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) while attempting to board a flight to China with 7.5 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a false compartment of her suitcase.
The agency also uncovered a drug syndicate accused of secretly planting illicit drugs in the luggage of unsuspecting passengers at motor parks.
Investigations led to the arrest of several suspects after operatives intercepted a package containing 467.7 grams of methamphetamine hidden inside a passenger’s luggage on a commercial bus travelling from Nnewi.
In other operations, NDLEA officers recovered 209.5 kilograms of Scottish Loud, 558,900 pills of Tramadol, 118 kilograms of skunk, and arrested several suspects across Lagos, Abuja, and other states.
The agency said it also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign in schools and communities nationwide to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the officers involved in the operations and urged them to remain committed to the fight against illicit drug trafficking.
