Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected kidnappers and armed robbery suspects in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
The arrests were confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, who said the operations led to the recovery of a locally made pistol and other exhibits.
According to the police, two of the suspects were arrested on June 23 after residents apprehended them following an attempted robbery at a residential compound.
A search of the suspects’ residence led to the recovery of a locally made pistol hidden inside a wardrobe, police said.
In a separate operation, officers attached to the ‘A’ Division, Ughelli, working alongside local vigilantes, arrested two suspected kidnappers over a failed abduction attempt that occurred on June 19.
The suspects, identified as Iliyasu Hassan, 16, and Idris Abdulkarim, 32, were reportedly arrested after leaving a nearby forest to buy food and medication.
Police said one of the victims of an earlier kidnapping positively identified the suspects as members of the gang responsible for his abduction.
The suspects remain in custody while detectives continue efforts to arrest other members of the criminal gang and recover additional weapons.
Delta State Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi praised residents for their vigilance and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
